Rumson’s charming and unique store, The French Market, is a brand built on Carli Windsor’s passion for design and artful living, and the artisanal ideal that small, hand baked and prepared foods, personally culled and crafted items, and unique finds are better than the large and impersonal.
Part bistro, part curiosity shop, the idea of The French Market had been an evolving dream on Carli Windsor’s for many years. “I wanted people to feel transported to the French countryside and hopefully leave refreshed, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I have spent much time in the Provencal countryside cafes and antique markets and I wanted to share that energy and experience with those friends and customers. The Market is a distillation of the lifestyle I would love to be living 24/7,” she explained.
Using a French-inspired aesthetic and her own personal style, Ms. Windsor culls items from her travels and also features the inspired gifts and art of local artisans. “I frequent antique shows and the like to bring one-of-a-kind finds to The Market for sale. In addition to the in-house choices, I also offer interior design. We enjoy the close-knit relationship we have developed with our customers and our community, including charitable as well as cultural organizations,” she said.
In addition, visitors will find delicious, freshly prepared food items and pastries, any of which make a wonderful break in the day and delectable gifts. Ms. Windsor added, “I really can’t choose a favorite, but I love the combo of one of our wonderful triple cream cheeses, homemade fig jam on a warm baguette, accompanied by a wonderful wine, possibly finished off with one of our amazing almond croissants.” She also said their holiday pies, freshly baked croissants, breads, sandwiches, and crepes are always a big hit for brunches and gifts. Other wonderful ideas for the holidays include beautifully curated gifts, custom French Market gift boxes, soaps, and toiletries, and they even offer catering.
The French Market is also an extremely popular spot for special events and parties. “They have become one of the most popular facets of our business,” Ms. Windsor commented. “People love hosting private dinners and events in the setting of our beautiful greenhouse/home and garden section of the café. From passed hors d’oeuvres for up to 35 people to an intimate seven-course gourmet sit-down dinner for up to 14, The French Market always provides a special atmosphere for any occasion.” To inquire about booking an event, please contact Carli Windsor at (973) 747-9415 or see Facebook at The French Market Rumson.
