The Shrewsbury Chorale has been in the spotlight for 60 years, bringing fine choral music to audiences in Monmouth County. They will be hosting a set of very special open rehearsals on Tuesdays, January 17 and 24, from 7:45 to 10:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, 1475 West Front Street, Lincroft. They invite singers of all voice parts, age high school and up, to participate in these rehearsals as they prepare for their 60th anniversary concerts. To enhance the excitement of this occasion, they also welcome back interested former Chorale members to join them as they mark this important milestone. Auditions and dues will be waived for returning members only, but rehearsal attendance is required. Scores are provided and both open rehearsals are free.
The 60th Anniversary Concerts, under the direction of Neil F. Brown, will take place on April 30 and May 14. The program will feature a reprise of Brahms’ gorgeous Liebeslieder Waltzes, which they performed in their very first season in 1957. Handel’s glorious Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day and James Whitbourn’s ethereal Requiem Canticorum, composed in 2010, will also be included.
