The 10U Jersey Shore Thunder baseball team, which is made up of fifth and sixth grade boys from Little Silver, Red Bank, Shrewsbury, Middletown, and Fair Haven, capped a successful fall season with its second USABL division championship in the past three years.
Following a 4-4-1 regular season, the boys hit their stride in the postseason, beating their first and second round opponents by scores of 12-2 and 13-0, respectively. They then traveled to Hazlet on Saturday, November 5, and defeated the Hazlet Hawks, 7-4, in a tense, drama-filled championship game.
After adjusting to their first time playing 50/70 baseball, each and every player contributed to the team’s success. Perhaps more importantly, what truly sets these boys apart is not necessarily their skill on the field, but how they comport themselves off of it. They’re a team in every sense of the word, picking each other up and cheering on their teammates no matter what the situation.
