The Power of Pink Luncheon, which will be held on July 11, is not only about breast cancer. Its focus and that of The Woman’s Council for the Leon Hess Cancer Center is much broader, helping women in their struggle with many other varieties of the disease. For example, The Power of Pink Luncheon helps fund The Woman’s Council’s semiannual “Spa for the Spirit,”  which is held each fall and spring and offers about 30 cancer patients a day of relaxation, rejuvenation, and beauty.  The event is held at Avanti Day Resort, 345 Route 9 South in Manalapan.  The owner of the spa is Luda Conti and spa manager Dana Spano.

Judi Morris, Spa for the Spirit chairperson says, “The Women’s Council for the Leon Hess Health Center created Spa for the Spirit to help women, who are going through chemotherapy and radiation therapy, feel beautiful and relaxed.  Participants are treated to facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, and cosmetic makeovers.  They also take part in discussions on health and well being.” All spa treatments are approved by Monmouth Medical Center’s Cancer Services’ clinical staff.

This year’s July 11 Power of Pink luncheon will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Riverwind, the private estate of Morgan E. Cline. The guest speaker will be Wendy Williams, television talk show host, and the honoree will be Dr. Robert Graebe, chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Monmouth Medical Center.  In addition to Spa for the Spirit, proceeds of the 18th annual Power of Pink luncheon will benefit the Patient Infusion Unit at Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center.
