Tween Writeaway – Every Tuesday, July 1-August 26; two sessions at 3-3:45 p.m. and 4-4:45 p.m.
Write a book this summer! Tweens will write a book over the course of the program. At the Writer’s Recital at the end of the summer, tweens are presented with an edited, “bound” copy of the book and show off their hard work to family and friends.

Summer Reading Kickoff – July 2
Sign up now for the Summer Reading Programs! Programs are available for all ages, pre-readers through adult. Earn prizes for reading and logging your minutes. Enter the weekly raffle drawing exclusively for Summer Reading Club Members to win amazing prizes. Register at www.mtpl.org or visit the library to complete your online signup.

Snakes of Monmouth County – July 14; 7-8 p.m.
Monmouth County Park System presents Snakes of Monmouth County for tweens and teens. Live snakes, native to Monmouth County, will be on hand. Tweens and teens ages 8-16 only.

Kitty Jones Presents Colonial Life – July 15; 7:30-8:15 p.m.
In celebration of Middletown 350, MTPL presents Kitty Jones in Colonial Life! History, music, dance, and improvisation where audience members are cast right into the show. Come celebrate spring with indentured servant Katie Cotswold in this young Colonial village. Meet the townsfolk and join in their chores, games, frolics, and take a turn in the maypole dance. Registration is required in person or by phone.

“The Lego Movie” Family Movie Matinee – July 17; 3-5 p.m.
Everything is awesome…when you’re at MTPL! Get in out of the heat and cool off in the Community Room for “The LEGO Movie.” An ordinary Lego construction worker, thought to be the prophesied ‘Special,’ is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the Lego universe into eternal stasis. Rated PG, 100 minutes. Ages 5 and up with an adult. Drop in; no pre-registration required.

Mad Science Mania with Dr. Bernard – July 19, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
We’ll be setting up a mini-children’s museum right in the library with free admission, hands-on activities for the whole family, and guest appearances by Dr. Bernard. Bring a camera if you wish to take pictures of your children with Dr. Bernard. Other activities will be presented by the Monmouth County 4H and MTPL.

NASA Water Filtration Challenge – July 21, 7-8:30 p.m.
How do astronauts get clean water when they are in space? They recycle their dirty water! Tweens and teens ages 8-16 will be challenged right here on earth to clean up some dirty water. In this program, presented by Poricy Park, participants will work in teams to design and create a water filtration device using a variety of materials. Discover why some substances are better than others for removing impurities from water. This program is for tweens and teens ages 8-16 only.

Emma Approved: YouTube Webseries – July 23, 2-3:30 p.m.
Do you love Jane Austen novels and movie adaptations? Come watch the wonderful adaptation of Emma in this new YouTube Webseries, Emma Approved. Watch a couple of episodes at each meeting, have some snacks, and compare it to the book. Even if you have not read the book, you will enjoy watching this series! Copies of the book will be available for checkout, if you would like to read Emma by Jane Austen.

Yoga for Kids – July 26, 10-10:45 a.m.
Learn the basic yoga poses and focus on flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, and body awareness. Visualization and breathing techniques promote relaxation and focus. Group activities foster self-confidence and respect for others, all in a fun, creative, and non-competitive environment. Not your mom’s yoga; this class will incorporate games, props, stories, music, and more! Please bring your own yoga mat or a beach towel.

Meet Otto the Auto: A Talking, Robotic Car – July 30, 10-11 a.m.
He talks! He blinks! He drives himself! He’s Otto the Auto and he wants to meet you! The three-foot-tall automobile will read a story, interact with the kids, and remind everyone to buckle up. This program is offered courtesy of AAA Midatlantic.

New Jersey Rocks! – July 30, 7-8 p.m.
New Jersey Rocks presented by New Jersey photographer and author Walter Choroszewski. This is an entertaining program about the history of New Jersey, spanning the dinosaurs of the Ice Age to the rock ‘n roll era of the Jersey Shore. Ages 6 and up only, please. Pre-registration required.
