COLTS NECK GIRLS’ SOCCER TEAM STARTS SEASON WITH OVERTIME VICTORY By Les Pierce
The season opener for the Colts Neck girls’ soccer team could only be described as a thriller. The Cougars battled A Division rival Howell into double overtime of scoreless play. Then, in the 95th minute, junior Erika Keselman headed a corner kick from Bridgette King high into the net for the game-winning goal.
Colts Neck had found the going tough as they faced a strong and physical Rebel defense all afternoon. However, Keselman was able to out-muscle the surrounding defenders to gain position in front of the net and leaped to perfectly time the header strike. Cougar goalie Lauren Zborovancik recorded six saves during the match.
Colts Neck finished the 2012 campaign with an enviable 14-7-1 record and were ranked third overall in the Shore Conference in the 2013 APP Preseason Poll.
Keselman’s athletic prowess is not limited to soccer. Last spring, as a sophomore, she was named to the All Shore Lacrosse team.
