Monmouth Civic Chorus Summer Sing – 7:30 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 112 Middletown Road in Holmdel. The Monmouth Civic Chorus invites singers to a Summer Sing of Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn. The admission fee of $5 at the door includes refreshments and score loan. Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast “Paint It Forward” Art Exhibition and Sale – 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Monmouth Beach Bath & Tennis Club, 65 Ocean Avenue in Monmouth Beach. A special art exhibition and sale to benefit Family & Children’s Service (FCS), Monmouth County’s oldest nonprofit social service agency, “Paint It Forward” will feature more than 150 original works from 30 local artists, many of whom are nationally known for their plein air work. Proceeds from the event will help support FCS’s 11 diverse programs and services, from homelessness prevention and childhood literacy to home care and adult protective services. Based at the Jersey Shore, the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast is a group of artists that likes to work “en plein air,” a term that is used to describe painting that is done outdoors. Started in 2003 with a handful of local artists, the organization now has more than 50 painter members and continues to grow each year, with members often painting as a group, drawing inspiration from the varied seascapes and landscapes that make up the Jersey Coast. St. George’s-by-the-River Third Annual Canterbury Art Show – 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on August 29, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on August 30, and 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. on August 31 at St. George’s-by-the-River Church, 7 Lincoln Avenue in Rumson. Featuring works by more than 80 artists, this “Tapestry of the Arts” is a premier local exhibition and sale of juried and non-juried artwork for hundreds of attendees. A special Meet the Artists reception will be held on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Each year, more than 600 works by artists from all over New Jersey and beyond are displayed and sold. All proceeds directly benefit the church and its outreach grants to more than 30 local agencies serving the needy of Monmouth and Ocean counties, including Lunch Break, Family Promise, HABcore, 180 Turning Lives Around, and more.
