Asbury Park Oysterfest: Amazing Seafood, Great Local Music and Celebrity Cooking Demos
Asbury Park – September 2013. Asbury Park Oysterfest is one of Monmouth County’s flagship festivals; a 3-day event that promises to be the ultimate end-of-summer experience for oysters, fun festival foods, live music, children’s amusements, over 75 crafters and vendors, beer, wine and even signature sodas. The festival runs Friday, September 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7th from noon to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 8th, from noon to 6:00 p.m.
This year’s festival grounds, sponsored by iStar Residential and the City of Asbury Park are located where downtown Asbury Park meets the waterfront in the shadow of the historic Carousel building. Jackie Pappas, Executive Director of the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce believes, “the fun of your childhood can be reimagined on this magical weekend. You’ll want to reach for the brass ring all over again!”
OYSTERS, OYSTERS & MORE: An Oyster Oasis will center the Oysterfest, featuring signature specials from Lusty Lobster, Jake’s Crab Shack and Tigers Tail. Also participating are more than 25 area eateries from around the Jersey Shore: Giamano’s, Tenth Ave Burrito, Ragin’ Cajun, Jersey Shore BBQ, Ikes famous Crab Cakes, Brandos Citi Cucina, Casa di Dolce, and more festival favorites, plus an oyster taco eating contest sponsored by Bubbakoos Burritos.
MUSIC: DJ Funsize, Random Test, Crimson Sky, New Born Kings Rock, Eddie Berner (formerly of Flock of Seagulls), Matt Wade, Josh Zuckerman, Aquavibe and the Bringatines and other local favorites. “It’s an amazing lineup of talented musicians,” says Mike Hollemans, Logistics Director for The Passion Group. “There’s going to be great live music all weekend long – just what everyone expects in Asbury Park.”
COOKING DEMOS: An intimate cooking demonstration area, located outside the iconic Asbury Park Carousel building is where culinary fans can relax, enjoy great food and watch as local & celebrity chefs share some tricks of the trade. Be sure to catch musician Eddie Berner as he trades in his guitar for a spatula and Food Network “Extreme Chef Champion” Terry French taking on the Shore on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm & 4:30pm.
PETS: The Monmouth County SPCA will be on hand with a water bar, cooling station and more surprises for you and your canine companion. If you are looking for a new BFF there will be adoptables at Oysterfest all weekend looking for their forever families.
KIDS ENTERTAINMENT: There’s non-stop fun for kids featuring super big inflatables, amusement rides, face painting, henna tattoos, sand art and more!
VENDORS & CRAFTS: Shop our craft and vendor area with over 75 vendors & artisans featuring everything from candles, vintage video games, unique jewelry, handbags and clothing to artful beer steins, photography, jewelry, mini massages and temporary tattoos.
SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY: Friday night, ‘Asbury Park Open House Night’ features FREE entry. Enjoy a beer or wine served by the fresh Jersey Shore Roller Derby Team, who will be raising money for their Jr. Derby team. Try your aim at the dunk tank, with various city officials in the hot seat raising funds for additional local charities. Saturday & Sunday a portion of the $3 weekend entry fee supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County. Meet the kids that benefit from Club programs all weekend long.
